The afternoon started with a visit to
Broadway First School where the bishop met children in each of the classes. Later bishop David commented on what good questions he had been asked.
In a moment of lightheartedness the vicar, Terry Mason, was dressed in the Bishop’s robes which symbolise that the bishop’s office is like that of a shepherd.
Clearly the sight of Broadway's vicar dressed in the Bishop's robes tickled the Bishop's sense of humour!.
This was rather apt as the next visit took him to a sheep farm that nestles on the top of Fish Hill.
The Bishop met farmer Chris Holmes and his daughter Sally, who is shepherdess, and showed them his 'Crook' that was made for him in the traditional manner when he became a Bishop. It was a busy time for Chris and Sally as they prepared some of their sheep for the Three Counties Show. One picture shows the Bishop brushing the prepared coat of the animal to achieve a finish that makes the sheep look proud and a perfect specimen of its breed.
